Pupil Premium

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, funding which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the students who need it most.

Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable.

It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. However, they will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families.

Performance tables capture the achievement of those disadvantaged pupils covered by the Pupil Premium. From September 2012, schools are also required to publish online information about how the Premium has been used.

Pupil Premium is allocated to children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), or have been eligible at any time in the last 6 years, and children who have been ‘looked after’ continuously for more than six months. A Service Premium is also awarded to children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces. This is designed to address the emotional and social well-being of these pupils.

At Fairfield Academy, we are committed to providing opportunities for all our pupils (including those funded through Pupil Premium) to achieve their full potential, both academically and socially.

Sport Premium Funding

The government is providing additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.

This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school headteachers.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE, sport and improving the health and wellbeing of primary pupils.
